My PM Buddy is an initiative aimed at helping product managers connect with each other to form accountability partnerships.
An accountability buddy is someone who assists you in working towards your commitments or goals. If you've ever had a workout partner, you likely found it easier to achieve your fitness objectives than if you were exercising alone. This same concept can be applied to product management.
The aim of this initiative is to enhance and promote product sharing and knowledge among product managers, thereby assisting them in becoming better product managers within the African context.
Product managers who have a year or more of experience in product management.
Product managers interested in participating can initiate the pairing process by filling out a shared form.
The My PM Buddy team will assess the responses and pair product managers with their respective buddies, using email as the main form of communication.
In this email, we'll introduce the buddies to each other and provide tips for success. Product managers will have full access to their buddies and are expected to collaborate, hold each other accountable for product goals, and give regular feedback.
Participants can arrange regular meetings and feedback sessions (we recommend bi-weekly). These sessions serve as a platform for collaboration, goal discussion, celebration of success, and addressing challenges.
To provide you with the necessary resources for success, each buddy group will have access to a Buddy Guide. This mentor will be readily available to provide guidance, answer questions, and assist with navigating challenges.
The registration form will be sent out on May 27th and will remain open until June 1st. The first batch of pairings will take place from June 3rd to June 10th.
After this, the pairing process will commence. All pairings should be finalized by June 15th, 2024, and the buddies will be contacted.
After this, preparations for the next batch will begin.
